I am posting this late as yesterday I as on my way home from a girls weekend with my friend Amy! I’ll tell you about our hiking, photography, camping adventure in the Big Horn Wyoming Mountains next week.
As for last week, it started out busy. Monday J and I went to North Dakota border town for an appointment and to pick up preconditioning vaccine.
Tuesday we had a marathon day of calf preconditioning. We worked three big groups of calves and a small group. It started out as a crisp morning and it remained cool enough to work cattle in the afternoon too.
After working cattle, I came home to prepare food for Wednesday.
My preconditioning menu went like this: Pulled pork sandwiches. Sunday J and I smoked a Boston butt on the Big Green Egg. I heated it up in the crock pot for Wednesday. Baked Potatoes, Cherry Pie Jell-O Salad, Melon Fruit Salad, Veggies and Mile High Apple Pie.
For our coffee break I had a dish full of ham sandwiches and caramel rolls. For this batch of rolls I used frozen cinnamon rolls and added a cup of pecans to the caramel. J had some Butter Pecan ice cream that I used instead of vanilla. There were no complaints from the cattle working crew!
Thursday morning we woke up after a little rain. I found .08″ in the gauge. J and I filled the day with odd jobs. I made spaghetti sauce with Roma tomatoes I purchased at the Farmer’s Market. I also added a few vegetables to the mix carrots, summer squash and peppers.
Friday morning we got another .08″ of rain. J, Cousin T and Roy made a trip to Motorcycle City. I stayed home to pack for my weekend adventure.
Sunday was J and I’s 12th Wedding Anniversary! J and I grilled steak and exchanged gifts on Friday evening. Nothing to exciting, but just right for this ole ranch couple on the prairie.
