Summer Grass Cattle

Last weekend I rode along with J to check the yearlings.

I had not been out to look at the cattle for awhile.  Time spent with my Cowboy checking cattle is time well spent.

This summer has been great for cattle.  There is an abundance of grass and lots of water in the dams.  On average, the weather has been more on the cool side versus high heat indexes.  The cattle are healthy, growing, and gaining!

With all the moisture this summer the wild prairie flowers are still in bloom.  This is rare for the middle of August.

Saturday we are ultra sounding the bred heifers.

This weekend is also the local County Fair.  J and I hope to make it to town on Saturday evening.  It is one of the few events that draws a lot of people to town and makes for good visiting.

The third picture down is my favorite Robyn! Ya know, living on a ranch makes it really hard to go out on “date nights” with our husbands but I totally agree with you; riding around on the four wheeler checking cows with my rancher is some of our best times spent together. Thank you for reminding me how much I love to do that.

It is fun to ride around with my cowboy and a good chance to chatter about the day. I am really glad that half the time we take the ranger on our little drives. Riding in the ranger is a little less traumatic on my bottom side. lol!
