Steers On Feed and Feedyard Foodie

Last Saturday found us south of I-80 on a hot and very windy day.  I wanted to see Mom and Dad’s steers on feed.  These steers were born the spring of 2011.  They will be harvested towards the end of June and become wholesome nutritious beef!

We visited with the Feedlot Owner/ Manager and the Assistant Manager took time to look at the cattle with us.

These red steers were in the pen across the lane from Mom and Dad’s.

After looking at Mom and Dad’s cattle, Mom and I went to Will Feed, Inc. to meet Anne, the Feedyard Foodie.  Anne took us for a tour of the feedlot and shared how she works towards her goals of providing safe, high quality, delicious Nebraska raised beef, while protecting the environment and showing compassion for her animals.  We also visited about family and agriculture advocacy.

A personal Thank You to Anne for taking the time to meet with Mom and I.  It is neat to meet and shake hands with a talented, highly respected cattlewoman.

Lots of good looking steaks there!

  3. Robyn,

I loved meeting you and your mom. And, I always love to show folks my feed yard and talk about what I do…My daughters claim that I pontificate too much, but it was great fun visiting with you and your mom because we share so many common interests.

I hope that you will stop and see me again!

    Nice post Robyn! 🙂
    Love your new header too!

  5. Great to see your family, thanks for stopping by and taking an interest in the cattle. Fun to see the changes in where cattle genetics have been and where new bloodlines look to be driving in the future. Management of the cattle, and buy in about why we do what we do, with people taking care of them has sure paid off. My boys sure enjoyed your folks and looking at some of the steers that sure would look good with a halter on them. Next time your through make sure you have time to enjoy a good steak, we have some aging in the cooler now.
