Spring Blessings

Rain!  Last Friday and Saturday we got some much much needed rain.  An 1.75″!   We keep catching a little shower here and there too.

I keep working on my 51 in 501 list.   I can cross off cook or bake with browned butter.  When J’s sister came to visit before Easter I tried a browned butter sauce and put it over brussels sprouts.  I wasn’t sure if I got the butter browned, so didn’t “count it”.  Last weekend I tried a browned butter brownie recipe.  After browning the butter and visiting with a good friend, I think I did do it correctly the first time.  So, I have now made a sweet and savory dish using browned butter.

We are getting ready to brand calves.  The vaccine is in, the crew is called and the cooks have a plan.

As you can see in the picture above, yearlings have character.  They make funny faces, jump fences and enjoy life.  Well, life is good until Roxie starts nipping at their tails and chasing them back in.

My new dishwasher and washing machine came yesterday.  If you remember, the dishwasher quit the night before I served Easter Dinner and the washer has been leaking for a while.  Now, I can attack my growing pile of muddy laundry.

I couldn’t take my camera out in the rain last weekend, so these pictures were taken a couple of weekends ago.

Last week J and I went on a road trip to pick up a puppy.  Pictures of puppy coming soon!  Still working on a name for her, but getting closer.

Happy for you and the Brown Butter and the appliances! Can’t wait to see pictures of ‘your’ new puppy. Glad all is well on the Ranch. Much Love!

What kind of puppy is your other dog going to be jealous

    • Robyn says:

Janet, Roxie is really good with the puppy. It’s amazing what the puppy is already learning from Roxie. She’s a little copy cat. When in the house Molly will have nothing to do with the puppy. Molly hides and shivers until I come “save” her. J informed me yesterday, that Molly will partake in outside playing and roughing around.

i just love your pics of the babies! what kind of puppy did you get?

  4. Can’t wait to see the puppy! I don’t think I’ve ever browned butter, just for that purpose.

    • Robyn says:

Lisa, thanks for the laugh! Are you saying with 3 little ones running around butter browns itself?

  5. New puppy! Can’t wait…

It’s been very rainy here too — over 2 inches in the last two days. I need to mow. Badly. 🙂

    • Robyn says:

Nancy, I mowed after work yesterday. The yard looks so fresh.
We are hoping to brand calves tomorrow, but they are calling for rain in the middle of the night. Hurry up and wait. We will take the rain and brand another day, if it comes to that.

  6. Pat says:

I love your cattle pictures, especially the calves. Can’t wait to see your new puppy!

    • Robyn says:

Thank You, Pat. I got some pictures of the puppy last night. She has the potential to be photogenic like her big sister, yeah for me. And just as smart as Roxie too, yeah for J.

  7. Sarah says:

    Love these photos. Sooo cute.

  8. Lynn says:

Thanks for these great pics of the calves! I recently moved to a small town and I am completely taken in by these young ones that are dotting the pastures right now. I witnessed my first calving a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience. Probably a common event for you I imagine.

    • Robyn says:

Thank You for the comment, Lynn! It is amazing to watch the birth of an animal. I don’t see it very often, but did get to witness a calf birth early this year. I love to watch the calves run, jump and play!

I love that first photo…like it knows how to get out if it could only reach high enough.

    • Robyn says:

      Rose
J tossed out some wild flower seeds last year and the first picture is this years crop. No flowers yet.

  15. Not sure I have heard of any kind of browned butter recipe, but sounds interesting. Calves are so cute.

    • Robyn says:

Southwest Arkie, they say browned butter is supposed to have a nutty flavor to it. My palette must not be sophisticated enough to pick up on it. lol!

  16. Janis says:

Those calfs are just too cute. I have never heard of “Browned Butter” it sounds good, will have to try it1
