Purple Flowers

It has been busy at our house!

1.  Tuesday, I went to the beauty shop for a hair cut.  I got my hair layered and love it.  It’s always refreshing to see the hair dresser.

2.   Wednesday I judged a small livestock show.  I was on a livestock judging team all through my 4-H career and judged for South Dakota State University.  The last show I judged was a County Fair 8 years ago.  It didn’t take long to get my grove back evaluating beef, sheep and showmanship.

3.  I do believe my Little Dog has a very mild case of allergies.  My previous Boston (I had a male, Jake, before Molly) got allergies after he turned 4 years old.  I had no idea dogs could develop allergies.  Jake got very sick within a few days of J and I wondering if something was going on.  Needless to say, I know the preliminary symptoms of Boston Terrier allergies.  I have Molly on an allergy med and will not be letting her browse through weeds.  The pollen falling off weeds this time of year is the primary component to allergy issues.  A low dose of antihistamine seems to be working good.

4.  I started reading Gone With The Wind.  I am captivated by Scarlett and her drama.

5.  Last weekend I made The Pioneer Woman’s Chicken Spaghetti.  We both liked it!  I also made the Buttermilk Biscuits from PW’s first cookbook.  I am slowly cooking my way through her cookbooks.  I have really good luck with her recipes and The Rancher seems to approve of her Cowboy type food.

A side note: These are the last flower pictures from my June trip to Iowa.  I did not grow these beauties.  I only had the joy of photographing and sharing them with you.

Lovely purple flowers, thanks for sharing them. I have wanted to try PW’s Chicken Spaghetti for some time, thanks for the review. I am, hopefully, going to get my hair trimmed this Sunday by hubby’s sister, a hairdresser. It is now below my waist! Yikes!!

    • Robyn says:

Let me know what you think of the Chicken Spaghetti. I sent the recipe to Mom and Sister too. Mom has not had a chance to look at it and I have not asked Sister what she thinks.

I don’t know if I could have my hair that long. It is below my shoulder blades and as long has I have ever had it in my life. I told the hair dresser I was thinking of bobbing it off and she talked me out of it. In June J told her that she is not allowed to cut my hair short. I’m not sure if that influenced her suggestion or not. Either way I love the layers.

  2. Love all the flower photos & quotes, Robyn.
I have to go to town today & I’m reminded that I should make a hair appointment, myself.
I was asked to be a photography judge for the 4H at our county fair next week.. We are possibly going to be in Canada, so I couldn’t commit, and I’m kind of bummed – I was flattered & think it would be a blast!
Have never read Gone With the Wind – I should!
Last week I read the Jane Austen Book Club.. and didn’t find it that great. I’m not much of an Austenite, myself. I tried reading Pride & Prejudice, and thought it was so shallow & dull. 🙂 The book club members were pretty funny, though.

    • Robyn says:

Our County Fair is next week also. I am helping on Thursday as a Judge’s assistant. I don’t have the first clue about judging static type things. I know a good picture when I see one, but I don’t know what makes it “technically” good. We have some really creative and talented kids in our county.

What are you doing in Canada?

I tired to read Pride and Prejudice. I got in a few pages and started re-reading. By the end of chapter one, if I made it that far, I was so confused I quit.

I am reading Gone With The Wind on my Kindle. I love being able to make the print big enough to easily read. I am around Chapter 13 or 14 and find it very entertaining. I wish I could stay up at night and read more. The last week I seem to fall asleep on the couch at 9:00.

Gone with the Wind is my second favorite book of all-time (Lonesome Dove being my most favorite book ever!). You will love it! You can’t help but love Scarlett and Rhett. And the movie is also very good. Long…but good!

    • Robyn says:

If I didn’t know better I think we could be related. lol! Micky is a HUGE Lonesome Dove fan too. Have you read the Lonesome Dove series? Well worth your time.

J is a chronic tv channel changer. When he stumbles upon Lonesome Dove it’s a must stop. I still cry every time Gus dies. If the movie is close to that scene I have to leave the room.

      • Bridget D. says:

I have actually read the Lonesome Dove series, but the first book is the best. I just love the book and the movie. If Mara was a boy we were going to name her Augustus 🙂

Beautiful flowers. I am due for a hair cut also. UGH! I like PW’s cook book. She has simple yet yummy recipies. I really like the olive/cheese bread! OMG! Delish! 🙂

    • Robyn says:

I made the Olive Cheese Bread when our college friends came to visit two years ago. It was tasty. The Rancher thought it was a little strange, so I haven’t made it again.

  5. Karen says:

Your flowers are beautiful! Good for you, getting back into judging at fairs. Gone with the Wind is one of my all-time favs, I hope you enjoy it!

  6. I have made a few PW recipes – they are very tasty. We like her zucchini cakes.

  7. I liked the movie Gone With the Wind but right now we deal with drama queen’s (and not in a good way) a little bit too much for me to find any entertainment in reading about one as spoiled at Scarlet.

  8. Scarlett…I still remember her 17 inch waist. Re-reading old books is so much fun! 🙂

  9. Maggid says:

    Gorgeous Flowers!!! Truly Wowzer!

I am happy to hear you got layered . . I have bushed out my hair – and am looking for a new stylist with a good pair of scissors. (giggle)

  10. Stephanie says:

GWTW is my all time favorite book. I’ve read it so many times I think I can practically recite it by heart. I made a drastic hairstyle change 2 months ago and I am just now getting used to it. It’s good to change every so often.

  11. lynn says:

These are beautiful flowers and you show them off so well, I love the quotes. It could be fun re-reading GWTW…I shall add it to my list.

    • Robyn says:

Thank You, Lynn. I enjoy looking at and photographing flowers.

I have started re-reading a few books from Childhood. It’s interesting how how one remembers a book as a kid and how the book can change through adult eyes.

  12. Tanya says:

oh no, poor little dog, hope he’s feeling better….how funny, i mention the county fair in my 5 today! love getting my hair cut but i hardly ever go, i just never really think about it till my ends are hideous! i’ve got gwtw to read, just intimidated by its Bible size lol

  13. Bev says:

    Beautiful purple flowers!!

  14. Dogs with allergies, who knew?

GWTW is a good read – enjoy.

Popped by from Random 5 Friday.

  15. Such beautiful flower photo’s. I loved them!
GWTW is my all time favorite book/movie (a few changes in the movie from the book) Scarlett may have been spoilt but she was also a survivor as you will see when you finish the book.
Oh I do hope your puppy gets better. Yes, pets can get allergies too so it’s good that there is medication for them.
That chicken dinner sounds good. I’ll have to check it out as I love trying new recipes. Just did one yesterday for Blackberry Muffins that were Yummy delicious.

  16. I love anything purple and those flowers are just gorgeous. On another note… you are reading ‘Gone With The Wind’. How awesome. That Scarlett is something else!

  17. I was wondering “how is it that Robyn has iris this time of year?” Lol.

And we must see a photo of your new “do” sometime.

  18. mary says:

Your flower photos are gorgeous! I love purple. It’s such a majestic color. 🙂

Chicken spaghetti and buttermilk biscuits?! My stomach is growling now, and i swear it wasn’t before i read that. Yummy, yummy, super yummy.

  19. Sharon says:

What lovely flowers! And I love the quotes, especially the first one. Joy in the journey, yes. I’m glad Molly is doing well and that you caught her allergies early.

  20. Robyn!

Long time, no talk! I love the photos (as usual) and the beautiful quotes. It’s so nice to check in and see you doing well. I have been somewhat of a slacker in keeping up with everyone lately, mostly due to our lack of reliable internet out here in the Ozark boondocks.

How good does it feel to see a hairdresser? I’ll admit that this July was the first time I had gone for a proper haircut/trim in well over two years. Something about a little pampering makes you feel like a new woman.

Take care and enjoy your reading 🙂

  21. emily says:

Loving the flowers! I got my haircut yesterday, too, it had gotten way out of control there for awhile. I have been awful with cooking. I am so forgetful nowadays, I never remember to buy things in advance to prepare. I have been hoping to sit down and find some recipes, but I find that the books I’ve got aren’t really things we eat, so I might just have to get one of hers and give it a try!
