One Day Art Class ~ Final Project

As January drew to a close so did the One Day on-line art class. Lesson #8 focused on “One Day Today Became The Day.” Through this class we have learned a little more about ourselves. About what our fears are and what we can to do to face and overcome them. We have grown in courage, we have support and now it’s time to take that first step. As Jodi says “One day she stood bravely, face to face, with all the things she had allowed to hold her back, hold her down, hold her captive and took a step forward as she recognized their power was only and illusion.”

Our last project was another collage. This piece has some special elements that add to the meaning of it for me.

I don’t consider myself a girlie girl nor am I a tom boy. I don’t wear makeup or enjoy shopping, but I love flowers, purple, butterflies and pink. All of these “likes” seemed to have come out in this piece.

The girl in the upper left hand corner is a copy of a card that my friend Kari gave me. The “Love You! Kari” and “God Bless You!” are Kari’s handwriting. This is one of my favorite card designs and is framed for preservation. There are also pieces of the early birthday card Kari gave me when her family came to visit last month. Words and thoughts from one of my closest friends reminds me how blessed I am to have such a wonderful woman in my life.

My friend Amy, who blogs at A Ranch Wife’s Slant, gave me the idea for the Bible verse. In 2015 she picked a verse to guide her year instead of making a resolution. Colossians 3:12-13 reads “As those have been choose of God, holy and beloved, put on the heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other, just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.” A verse of strength and humbleness from another ranch wife I hold close to my heart.

The dictionary definitions I chose reference back to the Bible verse.

Pathway: A footpath.

Patience: The sate of enduring or waiting patiently. The quality of being patient.

Kind: Disposed to good; sympathetic; showing gentleness.

Forgive: To pardon; as forgive your enemies.

Forgiveness: The act of forgiving; pardon.

Gentle: Friendly; forbearing; tamed, not wild; mild, not harsh or stern; moderate

Have you ever googled vintage stamps or post cards. Wow, fun finds! I also had the notion to look for vintage typewriter and coffee images for more art projects. I could spent hours clicking away.

I used rubber stamps to add the words Faith, Hope, Love and Truth. On the top edge I stamped Blessed and One Day on each side.

I want to take this opportunity to say Thank You to Jodi, host and teacher of the One Day Art Class! Thank You for having the courage to do something new, being vulnerable and sharing your story. You are an inspiration to me! Through this experience I have learned more about my inner self, embraced the One Day Statement thought process and discovered a level of creativity I didn’t realize I had.

Sometimes the one who needs the most compassion, kindness, gentleness, patience and forgiveness is ourselves and that is ok. It’s normal and something we need to pay attention to. Good friends, God’s word and inspiration from another can do wonders for the soul.

Your project is so lovely and isn’t it wonderful to have an inspirational teacher like Jodi.

Yes, a teacher that learns as much from the class as she teaches is priceless. I love that Jodi is down to earth and real. I chuckle during her videos as one can hear the beagle howling in the background, kids and everyday sounds. I don’t have a beagle, but my snoring Boston comes close.

What a lovely piece of work. A great idea to have a verse of scripture for a personal goal/guide.
