Late Summer Happenings

Last Thursday I helped with the 4-H static events at our County Fair.  I assisted one of the Visual Arts judges.  There were several really neat projects and outstanding photography exhibits.  I am sad to say, the participants and projects were about half of what they were last year.  I heard the livestock numbers were down too.

This is a creek that runs through some of the pastures we graze on.  It was a cool and beautiful morning when J and I went to check cattle last week.  It’s awesome to see August this green.

J and Cousin T started building a catch pen at one of our pastures.  They have been working hard to get it ready before calf preconditioning.  I made dinner on Friday and helped set posts in the afternoon.  It will be nice to have corrals to precondition in, as well as pull bulls or capture cattle.

Saturday afternoon J and I went to the funeral of a family friend.  The gentleman was the Grandpa of J’s close friend since grade school.  The services were a celebration of life for a man that loved life.  It was good to catch up with friends on the other side of the county.

The heat has returned over the last few days; it has been in the low 90’s.  We had a good rain on Tuesday the 13th; .75″!  We usually don’t have much fog or humidity in our area.  Lately, we have had a regular dose of dense fog.

This is my last blog post for a while.  I am taking a blogging break and will be back the week after Labor Day.  I hope everyone has a good start to the new school year, success at your State Fair and a great Labor Day weekend.

Isn’t it wonderful to see the pastures looking so beautiful after the drought last year? Gorgeous photos! We are warming back up this week, too, but after the last two summers when 100-plus was the norm, this seems bearable. Enjoy your blogging break, Robyn! I hope you come back renewed and refreshed, just like those green pastures.
