Highlights From This Week

It’s been an exciting busy week. Here are a few of my favorite moments:

1. Getting cattle out to grass! This morning we are headed out to move the last pair group out to pasture. The yearlings will get turned out soon.

2. J got the corn planted. I’m the gate opener and helped J fill fertilizer boxes.

3. Roy was home to help brand the last group of calves and take pairs to summer grass. Roy is Cousin T’s son and just graduated from Tech School as a John Deere Mechanic.

4. Everyday is a little more spring like. Sunshine and low 70’s┬ámakes me smile. I see a few blooms on the prairie and the trees are starting to bud. B and I mowed again yesterday; this time I didn’t need cool weather attire.

Hooray for grass!! No more snow! I will never forget how excited our cows always were when they got off the ‘dry lot’ after a long winter. They were never so happy to have that fence opened and off they went! I’ve heard a bit about The Goldfinch, I’ll be interested to know what you thought of it…

I am half way through The Goldfinch. It’s well written and quit the story. I keep wondering what the main character is going to do next or what he is going to deal with around the next corner of life. The story starts when he is an eighth grader and the tragedy he is dealt. Theo is a strong character that doesn’t make the best decisions. At this point in the book he has had another major life change and I have a feeling that his future decisions will be better than that of the last 2 years.
