Flowering Cactus

The Rancher and I took a little road trip over the weekend.  We went to visit some good friends and attend MeatFest 2012!  We had a fun time eating ribs.  I will be posting more later this week.

I had to stop and snap pictures of the cactus in bloom last week.  The color cheers up the dry prairie.

Still no rain in these parts.  It sure acts like it could rain today.  The wind seems to be unending here on the prairie.  It has blown us some pretty clouds though.  These pictures were taken at sunset.

This morning J and his Dad turned bulls out.  I helped gather; just in case the bulls wanted to act difficult.  All went smooth.  4-wheeling behind a group of bulls, I see a lot of athletic power, testosterone and speed.  Interestingly enough, Roxie breaks up the fight and they respect her.

I helped move haying equipment one evening.  While I waited for J Roxie and I watched the set sun in the western sky.

Are you a fan of ribs?  Have you been getting rain in your area?

I’m not a big fan of ribs, too messy, but I LOVE pulled pork!!
The cactus flowers always bring a touch of color to the barren landscape.
Those clouds look like they should be bringing you rain. It is thundering here right now but I’m not sure it’s going to make it up to our house. 🙁

At home I make country style ribs (mostly boneless) in the oven or crock-pot baked in homemade BBQ Sauce. M’s ribs are a huge treat for us.

It’s still funny acting out. It has been grey and hazy humid all day and very windy!

Pretty cactus flowers. I love the silhouette shot of your dog.

Ribs aren’t my favorite. I love the dog shot and the cactus flowers are so pretty.

The cactus flowers are pretty. I only found yellow and peach colored ones; I think there are pink ones too. I thought the dog picture was unique.

  5. I don’t know who doesn’t love ribs! Well, I love ’em but haven’t had them in a long time.

Love the sky shot of Roxie. Thank you for sharing at Your Sunday Best this week, Robyn. 🙂

No, I’m not a fan of ribs, since I am a vegetarian. 😉 And yes, we have been getting lots of rain here lately, but a sunny day today and yesterday!

Oh Robyn these photos are amazing you have such a good eye and talent.
Love the bottom one and the sky photos. Not a big fan of cactus since I fell on one as a kid but you sure make them look pretty:)
I love ribs the messier the better.
It rained a fair amount here for two days but it still did not bring up the ponds for our cows. Although it did rain heavily on our raked hay. Had to turn over again. Life is frustrating sometimes. I hope you get your rain soon. B

Thank you for your touching comment, Buttons! I love taking photos and editing. It’s my creative outlet.

If I fell on a cactus I would be leery too. We all have those kinds of memories. Kind of goes along with your post today.

Glad to hear you are getting rain; even if your hay got washed. Things are starting to get desperate in our parts. Today’s temperature of 100+ with high winds does not help our situation.

We loves ribs. My husband will grill ribs every other weekend, and try to smoke them. We just recently tried beef ribs, but my preference is pork ribs! Love that last shot!

  9. Wonderful series of shots, love that silhouette and ribs, yes, we love them! Rain, we’ve had quite a bit, but not like Florida, those poor people! Thank you Robyn, for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #36!
