Feeding Cows

Last Saturday was cake day for the cows.  We filled the cake feeder with cows favorite cube and gathered the herd.  I was in the pickup;  J and Roxie gathered the stragglers with the 4-wheeler.  Like the bulls, cows come running when I honk the horn.

I drive and honk then stop and feed a few cubes.  This helps to keep the cows interested in following me to our feeding destination.

I normally do not let the cows eat cake cubes off the back end of the pickup.  I toss a few on the ground or feed the “Cake Hogs” by hand.  Cows can be destructive when they get to pushing and shoving.

Saturday we gathered and took the cows to the east side of the winter pasture to feed.

We like to distribute the cake in a big circle.  This gives us a good opportunity to check over the cows and make sure they are healthy.

After feeding we broke ice on the water tank.  It’s important that the cows have plenty of water available and the tank is working.

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

One of these days I’m going to remember to take my camera when hubby and I go for our morning walk so I can get some pictures of the cows. They were all right on the road this morning, dang!
