Family, Fun and Frustration

Last week was more abnormal than usual; atypical in good ways and in peevish ways.

FAMILY: Mom and Dad came to visit! They got here on Tuesday afternoon and stayed until Friday morn. We looked at cattle, toured around pastures, visited Cousin T, relaxed and shared stories.

FUN: Mom and I went on photography adventures. We photographed cattle, the beauty of autumn, sunsets, sheep and horses. It was fun to have a “partner in crime” to capture the changing season. Dad was very patient with Mom and I as we clicked away.

Look for the results of our photo opportunities in future blog posts.

FRUSTRATION 1: J spent the week at the neighbor’s chopping corn. The general conciseness is corn chopping is a marathon not a sprint. It’s a matter of when you breakdown and how bad of a breakdown, not if you have a breakdown. By noon last Friday corn chopping 2014 was in the books.

FRUSTRATION 2: Last summer we had a bay window put in to replace the last old window in our house. When I went to stain and finish the window we discovered the trim was the wrong wood. Last Tuesday a carpenter from the window company came to work on fixing the problem.  When the carpenter got here he looked things over and decided he didn’t have the right materials to correctly fix the problem. Wednesday he had issues with his nail gun. Thursday he got the job completed.

Just as luck would have it, I have plenty of stain, but not enough gel varnish. I promise to share pictures when we get done. The good news is we love the light and openness the window adds to our home.

Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday afternoon J and I hauled hay like crazy! The weatherman was talking rain and we were antsy to get more hay moved. It’s amazing what we can get done in an afternoons time.

Sunday evening J’s Uncle from Sioux Falls showed up. He is out visiting and helping around the ranch.

As predicted yesterday was a wet rainy day. It’s nice to see moisture, get moisture in the form of rain and take an afternoon nap.

The photo of your “bathing beauty” shows that it’s beginning to look like fall. As I said yesterday on Facebook, the photo with the beautiful sky is my favorite, partially because I can relate to the curious cattle wondering, “What is that lady doing?” And I always love a gorgeous sky! I’m glad we hire someone to cut our silage. Then, if there are breakdowns, it’s their problem – for a change!

Photos are breathtaking what kind of camera do you use? I am looking for ideas as the point & shoots don’t give me what I am looking for. Obviously budget is limited but secretly I dream of taking breathtaking photos 🙂

Love to hear from you, your mom and I had a great time on the junk jaunt. We found you a cute chair. My treasure for the day was a mirror I have been looking for!

Love the pic in the creek shot! Don’t you just love hearing all the stories from ‘back then’. I loved listening to my dad and his brothers tell stories from their childhood.
