An Outdoors Kind of Gal

This week’s Scavenger Hunt prompts come from Teresa at Eden Hill’s blog.  Teresa is a talented photographer and writer.  She is also an animal lover … goats, cattle, dogs, cats, poultry and more!

I am glad I started early on the Scavenger Hunt.  The last few days have been crazy busy with cows calving and farming.

Molly likes to play outside.  It’s the bath she gets afterwards she doesn’t care for.

These Sharp-tailed Grouse were chatterboxes sitting in the trees.  I added the Skies Laundry Day texture from Nancy at A Rural Journal to both pictures.

These calves rest in comfort.  The left picture is the original.  The right was edited with the Watercolor option at  I also added Kim Klassen’s 2203 and Partings textures.

I have not spent much time in the kitchen this week as I have been busy working outside.  I can say that I found a Polish Wedding Cake and Chocolate Chip Cookies in my freezer.  Sandwiches, Frozen Pizza (not my favorite, but sometimes necessary) and eggs have been my quick go-to meals.   April 7

Being a Ranch Wife I spend a lot of time outside.  Some days, I am in the kitchen long enough to make ham sandwiches then out the door I go.  Last week was pretty busy with calving and farming.  I am not much of a chatterbox when we are so busy.  There is a lot to keep track of and communicate about.  In addition, I tend to ask a lot of questions.  In the evening we seem to zone out, J in the comfort of his recliner watching tv and me on the computer.  I do observe the beauty around me.  I notice beautiful sunrises and sunset as we tag calves and the stunning blue sky and big puffy clouds as I take out pairs.  Now, I need to find the extra minutes to capture it with my camera.

Adding Nancy’s texture to the grouse is perfect. Well done with this week’s words.

  5. You do live a totally different life style on a farm (that’s why I’m a city gal) but I enjoy learning about farm life and seeing photos. Those cows look very comfortable and I liked the shot of the Grouse in the trees. They make the weirdest noises.

Molly is so happy. Love the grouse and Nancy’s texture (one of my favorites). And the calves — love the brown eyes. Thank you for reminding me about BeFunky.

I enjoyed all the pictures, especially the grouse ones.

My screen is working now – hope it is fixed for good. I too watched and waited before joining in, but part of that was not understanding how to get the texture layers to work and merge with my photos. Even with her tutorials I still had a hard time, possibly becuase I use Gimp and it was a challenge finding where some of the tools were.

Wonderful photos. The wild turkeys roosting in the trees near my home look rather large, too.
